Description

French sculptor (19th century) — Bacchanal.

Patinated terracotta.

A terracotta sculptural group depicting two nymphs and a satyr in animated dance, with a cornucopia of grape clusters at the base. The composition, designed to be viewed from multiple angles, reflects the characteristic style of Claude Michel, known as Clodion (Nancy 1738 – Paris 1814): sensuous modelling, soft surfaces, and lively rendering of the flower-wreathed hair. Generally good state of preservation with even patina.
