Description
Two-light wall sconce in carved and gilded wood. Italy, 18th century.
Wall sconce with two arms in carved and gilded wood, of crescent-shaped form and horizontal development. The back plate, profiled in a lunette shape, is edged with rich acanthus-leaf and scroll carving. At the centre, a cartouche element connects the two curved arms supporting the candle sockets. The lower section is decorated with pierced foliate motifs. The carving reflects the characteristics of Italian 18th-century Rococo taste. The sconce has been electrified at a later date (wiring to be revised).
Condition report: Good overall state of conservation, with normal wear to the gilding and minor localised losses.
