Description
Italian twelve-light chandelier in carved, gilded and painted wood. Early 19th century.
Entirely in carved and gilded wood, with a sectioned central body painted with polychrome floral motifs on a gilt ground. The upper shaft terminates in acanthus leaves and connects via iron chains to twelve candle arms arranged along the rim, alternating with fully carved figures of winged putti, each holding a lamp arm. The ensemble is consistent with Italian decorative production of the early 19th century, in keeping with the Charles X taste. The chandelier is electrified, with wiring in need of revision.
Condition report: Generally good state of conservation. Wear to the gilding is present throughout, with bole showing in several areas and minor localized losses. Electrical wiring in need of revision.
