Description
English painter (late 19th century) – River Landscape with Boat.
Oil on canvas, in gilt wood frame.
The painting depicts an intimate river scene set in a wooded landscape with still water and reflections. In the foreground, a flat-bottomed boat loaded with wicker fish traps dominates the composition, with a fisherman bent over the bow at work. In the background, beyond the dense vegetation, the remains of a brick structure — likely a rural building — are visible. The palette, dominated by deep greens and ochre tones, reflects the naturalist sensibility of late 19th-century English landscape painting, close to the Barbizon tradition and Victorian plein air practice.
Condition report: Original canvas. Good state of conservation of the pictorial surface, with signs of ageing and wear.
