Veneered box in dark woods with inlays. Italy, early 20th century.
Rectangular box with a shaped and moulded lid, entirely veneered in dark woods with strongly marked grain, with curvilinear inlays, a central cartouche and corner scrolls in lighter wood. The front features a small drawer with an original gilt brass key. The whole is entirely edged with banded mouldings. The craftsmanship reflects the Italian cabinetmaking tradition of the early 20th century, with attention to material quality and the decorative composition of the veneers.
Condition report: Good overall state of preservation, with signs of normal aging and wear consistent with age.
