Description
Pair of vases in red Verona marble and patinated bronze. Italy, late 19th century.
Baluster-shaped body entirely turned in red Verona marble, lid surmounted by a flame finial and patinated bronze handles modelled as seated female figures in the round, joined by floral garlands. Base with foliate scrolls resting on a square plinth.
Of eclectic historicist taste, the pair draws on Neoclassical decorative motifs, here reinterpreted with a more naturalistic accent in the figures and garlands. The chromatic contrast between the veined red marble and the dark bronze patina enhances the decorative effect of the pair, conceived for formal display.
Condition report: Good general condition, with normal signs of wear and oxidation to the bronze patina consistent with age.
