Coin cabinet in veneered walnut with floral and bird marquetry. Netherlands, second half of the 17th century.
A coin cabinet in veneered walnut, finely inlaid in fruitwood with flower filled vases and pairs of small birds set within ebonized frames. The two plain outer doors conceal a densely fitted interior arranged in a symmetrical series of small drawers, each decorated with matching floral and bird marquetry and fitted with cast bronze pulls, with two smaller doors at the centre completing the composition. The shaped hinges, pierced lock plates and ring handles are of wrought iron. The cabinet stands on a base with four turned legs joined by a shaped double scroll stretcher with a central finial, terminating in onion feet.
Condition report: Good state of preservation, with traces of past restoration and natural wear consistent with age. Hardware and locks are original.
