Description
Giuseppe Faccin (Schio 1874 – Vicenza 1916) – View of the interior of the Basilica of St. Mark, Venice.
Oil on canvas, in a carved and gilded wood frame.
The work is signed and dated lower right: «G. Faccin 1894».
Giuseppe Faccin trained under the painter Tommaso Pasquotti and later graduated with honors from the Royal Academy of Venice. Active between the late 19th and early 20th century, he worked mainly on sacred subjects for churches in the Vicenza area, alongside portraits, landscapes and prints.
The present work, signed and dated 1894, depicts the interior of the Basilica of St. Mark in Venice and reflects the artist’s years of training in the city. The perspective framing and the interplay of light between the shadowed naves and the golden glow of the mosaics show a close observation from life, typical of the late 19th century academic culture.
Condition report: Original canvas. Good state of preservation of the pictorial surface.
