Description
Pair of walnut burl and rosewood chests of drawers – Lombardy, mid-18th century.
A pair of commodes veneered in walnut burl with bois de rose stringing finished in maple. The structure is shaped on the front and sides in the Lombard Baroque taste, with a double-serpentine profile. The top, also veneered, features an inner double-strung border following its undulating outline. The front is divided into three drawers with cast bronze rocaille handles and escutcheons. The sides repeat the same decorative scheme with a central cartouche framed by curved stringing. The tapering feet continue the scrolled movement of the lower apron.
Condition report: Generally good state of preservation. Minor signs of use consistent with age.
