The anticlerical subject, depicting a monk in a licentious encounter with a female figure, fits within a well-established satirical tradition in French art and literature of the period, nourished by the secular and polemical climate that followed the Revolution. The sheet is executed with a confident and fluid ink technique. The line reveals the hand of a draughtsman with academic training, capable of building volumes through a modulated stroke and of effectively conveying bodily tension and the rendering of drapery.<\/p>\n<p>Condition report: Good state of conservation of the paper support and graphic surface.
