Her dark hair, gathered in side ringlets and adorned with a rose, reflects the fashion of the years 1835\u20131845. The figure holds a small lapdog in her lap. To the right of the composition, an easel bears the portrait of an officer in a light blue uniform, presumably her husband, giving the work the character of a private double portrait. In the background to the left, an open window reveals a landscape with classical architecture and a white horse.<\/p>\n<p>Condition report: Relined canvas.
