Description
Italian sculptor (17th-18th century) – Figure of a saint.
Full-length figure in carved, lacquered, and painted wood, with extensive traces of gilding.
The sculpture depicts a standing female saint in a slightly contrapposto pose, with arms open in a gesture of prayer or address. The robes, animated by a fluid rendering of the drapery, feature gilt floral decoration. The face, with regular features and a composed expression, is framed by dark hair falling onto the shoulders. The quality of the carving and the movement of the drapery are consistent with the Italian tradition of devotional wood sculpture between the 17th and 18th centuries, with possible references to the central Italian or Venetian area.
Condition report: Some losses and flaking of the polychromy. Overall condition consistent with the age of the work.
