This view depicts the Island of San Cristoforo della Pace in the Venetian lagoon, identifiable by its simple church façade and low monastic buildings. In the foreground, gondolas and boatmen are rendered with the quick, summary brushwork of the Guardesque macchiette tradition. The vivid palette, dominated by turquoise-green tones in sky and water, is characteristic of Venetian genre painting between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
