Description

Venetian painter (18th-19th century) – Venice, view of the Grand Canal with the Palazzo dei Camerlenghi.

Oil on canvas, in a carved and gilded wooden frame.

The painting depicts the Grand Canal seen from near the Fondaco dei Tedeschi looking south, with the Palazzo dei Camerlenghi prominently on the left. The canal is animated by gondolas and working boats, following the typical repertoire of Venetian vedutismo in the tradition of Canaletto. The luminous rendering of the water and the architectural treatment suggest a painter active between the late 18th and early 19th century.

Condition report: Relined canvas. Good state of conservation of the pictorial surface.
