Oil on canvas, in a period carved and gilded wooden frame.
The painting depicts a river landscape set among autumnal vegetation in warm tones of ochre, brown and dark green. In the background, a rocky cliff dominates the composition, while a farmhouse can be glimpsed among the trees on the right. At the centre, a dark-surfaced watercourse reflects the diffuse light of a cloudy sky; a small boat is visible on the left bank. The fluid, tonal brushwork is consistent with the Northern European Romantic landscape tradition, with echoes of the German or Austrian school of the late 19th century.
Condition report: Original canvas. Good condition of the pictorial surface, with scattered scratches and signs of wear, particularly in the sky area.
