Description
Pair of carved, lacquered and painted wood candlesticks. Venice, 18th/19th century.
Pair of carved, lacquered and painted wood candlesticks of Venetian manufacture. The twisted shaft, a characteristic element of the Baroque repertoire, rises from a prismatic quadrangular base with openwork panels decorated with geometric and floral motifs, resting on paw feet. The upper petal-shaped bobeche retains its original metal spike. The polychrome decoration is articulated on a yellow ground with red highlights.
Condition report: Good structural condition of the wooden body. Widespread lacquer losses and craquelure, consistent with the age of the piece.
