The work reproduces the painting by Jacopo Bassano (Bassano del Grappa 1510 – Bassano del Grappa 1592) housed at the Musée du Louvre, Paris.
The composition closely follows the scheme devised by Jacopo Bassano, centred on the lifeless body of Christ laid on the ground and lit solely by the flame of a candle. Around him gather the Virgin, the Magdalene and Joseph of Arimathea, in a composition of strong emotional intensity and pronounced chiaroscuro, typical of the Venetian pictorial tradition within the Bassano circle.
Condition report: Original canvas. Good state of preservation of the pictorial surface, with signs of aging and wear.
