Description
From the circle of Jean-Baptiste Greuze (Tournus, 1725 – Paris, 1805) – Portrait of a Young Lady.
Oil on canvas, in a carved and gilded wooden frame.
The painting depicts the bust of a young woman in a three-quarter pose, gazing upward. Her brown hair is adorned with a wreath of leaves in the classical style. Her dress features light drapery over a dark red cloak. The rendering of the skin tones, the warm chiaroscuro against the dark background, and the compositional style directly recall the manner of Jean-Baptiste Greuze, the artist behind numerous similar compositions, including the *Head of a Young Girl* housed at Waddesdon Manor.
Condition report: Lined canvas. The painted surface is in good condition, with widespread traces of old restorations and paint oxidation.
