Description

Pair of bedside cabinets veneered in kingwood, with marble tops. Sicily, late 18th – early 19th century.

Entirely veneered in kingwood with a herringbone arrangement, following a veneering technique typical of late 18th-century Sicilian cabinetmaking. The open compartment, fitted with an inner shelf, is topped by a grey veined marble slab, an element that underlines its function as a bedside cabinet. The tapered legs, with a turned baluster junction, lend the piece lightness and visual movement. The simple brass handles complete the decorative scheme. The pair reflects the typical traits of cabinetmaking production from the Palermo area, valued for the quality of its veneers and the balance of its proportions.
