Pair of carved and gilded wall brackets. Italy, 18th century.
A pair of wall-mounted brackets in carved and gilded wood, of cartouche form, with a fan-shaped central body decorated with acanthus leaves and shell motifs. The shaped upper shelf is painted in faux marble. Italian work of the 18th century, these brackets were typically used to display small sculptures or decorative porcelains, and were a characteristic feature of palazzo interiors of the period.
Condition report: Good overall state of conservation. Minor signs of wear and small losses to the gilding, consistent with the age of the piece.
