Description

Pair of carved wooden refectory chairs. Modena, 19th century.

A pair of fratina chairs in carved wood, of Modenese production.

The structure, entirely carved, features a tall back with a pierced crossbar decorated with foliate motifs, turned front legs and sabre rear legs joined by horizontal stretchers. The type, derived from Renaissance monastic furniture, enjoyed wide diffusion in 19th-century Emilia as a revival of earlier conventual models.

Condition report: Overall good state of preservation, with normal signs of age and use.
