Description
Italian sculptor (19th century) – The Kiss.
Carved white marble group.
The group depicts two nude figures in a tender embrace on a rocky base: the male figure leans toward his kneeling companion, encircling her in a gesture of mutual attraction. The accurate anatomical rendering and compact composition reflect a confident command of sculptural technique. The work belongs to the Neoclassical and Romantic tradition of the erotic-sentimental group, widespread in 19th-century Italian and European sculpture, where mythological and allegorical subjects provided the occasion for the exploration of the nude.
Condition report: Generally good state of preservation. A few minor breaks and repairs are present. Wooden base.
