Description
Olivewood and olivewood burl veneered game table. Tuscany, 18th century.
Game table with fold-over top, entirely veneered in olivewood and olivewood burl, with bois de rose stringing. The closed top features a decorative composition obtained through the matching of burl grain, with a perimeter frame and central medallion in olivewood burl, edged by fine bois de rose stringing. The frieze is veneered with a straight-grain olivewood central panel, framed by stringing. The cabriole legs are veneered in olivewood herringbone pattern, with a bois de rose end-grain fillet along the profile, and terminate in a scrolled foot with pointed finial. The fold-over top rotates and rests crosswise on the table structure, revealing a concealed inner compartment beneath the playing surface.
Condition report: Generally good state of preservation. Top slightly warped. Minor signs of use and age consistent with the piece.
