Description
Jef Lambeaux (Antwerp 1852 – Brussels 1908) – Erotic scene.
Full-round group in chased and patinated bronze.
Signed on the base: «J. M. Lambeaux».
Jef Lambeaux was one of the leading figures of late nineteenth-century Belgian sculpture, renowned for his figurative groups of intense sensual energy and for his mastery of bronze casting and chasing. His erotic compositions, conceived for a cultivated and discerning clientele, combine the solidity of the Flemish tradition with the Symbolist taste prevalent in European sculpture at the turn of the century.
The small group depicts two nude figures in an amorous pose. The modelling of the bodies reveals a strong anatomical command, while the chasing of the surface attests to the executive refinement characteristic of the artist’s output.
Condition report: Good state of conservation. Original patina. Signs of ageing and surface wear.
