Description
Italian sculptor (16th century) – Lion in heraldic pose.
Full figure in carved walnut with dark patina, on a rectangular base.
The lion is depicted in a heraldic pose, with the right front paw raised and the open muzzle turned toward the viewer. The mane is carved in overlapping, animated locks of good quality. The compact, well-proportioned body reflects a conventional anatomical rendering consistent with northern Italian wood sculpture of the 16th century. The figure rests on a shaped rectangular base.
Condition report: Generally good state of conservation. Small localized losses present, particularly on the back and base. Ancient woodworm traces.
